International Scientific Association «Institute of Slavic studies» (jointly with Bryansk State University named after academician I. Petrovskij (Russia) and Cherhigov Pedagogical University named after T.G. Shevchenko (Ukraine) has functioned since October 2004. Within the framework of this association Cooperation Agreement between Scientific Research Institute «History and culture of eastern Slavic people» and affiliation of Bryansk State University named after academician I. Petrovskij in Novozybkov has been valid since September 2009.
Principle directions of the activities are the following:
- Historical, cultural and ethnical processes on the territory of Russian-BelarusianUkrainian border regions.
- General Slavic, general eastern Slavic and regional aspects in spiritual culture of eastern Slavic people.
- Eastern Slavic folklore and folk ritualism. Typology of eastern Slavic folklore forms.
- Eastern Slavic culture on the boarder territory: contacts, interaction, mutual enrichment.
- Eastern Slavic onomastic fund: genesis, development, interaction. Reveal of pro-Slavic onomastic fund of Polesye. Innovation phenomena.
- Folklore and dialectic lexis and phraseology on the ethnical contact territory.
The Agreement on the Association establishment and Cooperation includes fundamental and applied researches of Russian-Ukrainian-Belarusian border regions in historical and current aspects on the following directions: historical and political geography, social and economic development of Slavic world, demographic processes, interaction of cultural traditions. Meetings of the heads of border regions dedicated to the summarizing the fulfilled activities and discussion of future activities plans are held annually. Generally this cooperation is implemented through joint scientific research activities, joint scientific conferences, joint expeditions, seminars and schools.
