Rules of admission of foreign citizens at a PhD programme

PhD programmes are available for foreign students which have higher education (Master`s degree), disposition toward scientific research activities and the ones who speak Russian language.

An applicant`s disposition toward scientific research activities, as well as level of language of instruction sufficient for PhD study, is revealed during an examination.

PhD programmes are available in full-time and part-time terms. Study period for a full-time course doesn`t exceed 3 years. The period of study for a degree-seeking students doesn`t exceed 5 years (the 1st and 2nd years are dedicated to preparation and qualifying exams as well in comprehensive subjects). In order to apply for a degree-seeking form of study, at least 2 years of correspondent practical experience is required (execution of duties which require higher education).  

The ones applying for full-time studies must undertake qualifying examinations in Philosophy and Methodology of Science, Russian as a Foreign Language and a differential test in Informational Technologies before applying to a PhD programme. For this purpose the applicants are enrolled at a degree-seeking study course (2 years of study) for preparation and exams in comprehensive subjects with further study of a PhD programme.  

Courses of Russian language are available for the ones who aspire to enhance their knowledge.

Terms of admission of foreign citizens at a PhD programme

PhD programmes are available for foreign students which have higher education (Master`s degree).  

Before applying for a PhD programme, a foreign citizen possessing a diploma of higher education and correspondent degrees must prove the correspondence/equivalence of his documents to Belarusian ones in accordance with legislation of the Republic of Belarus.    

In order to receive a notification of equivalence of documents issued in a foreign country a foreign citizen must present the following documents at the Republican Institute of High School (Minsk, Moskovskaya Str. 15, room 219, tel.: 8 017 228-13-13, web-site: nihe.bsu.by):

  • application;
  • passport or any other identification document;
  • a copy of a considered document issued in a foreign country (legally certified and legalized by a notary);
  • a copy of a diploma supplement (academic transcript) issued in a foreign country (legally certified and legalized by a notary);
  • translation of an original document (its copy) issued in a foreign country and its supplement (academic transcript) legally certified by a notary. A document must be translated in one of the official language of the Republic of Belarus.

Maximum term of considering documents is 1 month as from the date of submission.

List of documents required for admission of foreign citizens at a PhD programme  

  • an application addressed to the rector;
  • an examination protocol;
  • a copy of a higher education diploma (Master`s degree) translated into Russian and legally certified by a notary (in case a document is issued in a foreign country);
  • a copy of a diploma supplement translated into Russian and legally certified by a notary (in case a document is issued in a foreign country);;
  • a notification of equivalence of documents issued in a foreign country to a Belarusian diploma;
  • certificate of termination of Russian language courses (if available);
  • a prove of successful pass of qualifying examination;
  • a personnel records list;
  • an autobiography;
  • a copy of passport legally certified by a notary;
  • a medical certificate, certificate on HIV-infection absence;
  • a study agreement;
  • a copy of a tuition fees receipt (after the admission);
  • a passport and diploma (presented personally by an applicant);
  • 3 photos 3х4.

The above mentioned documents in case of issued in a foreign language must be translated into Russian and legally certified by a notary.
