Participation in the international olympiad in English

On March 24, the Second International Olympiad “Sharing borders, growing closer. Do you know Pskov-Belarusian Borderland?” (in English) dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Treaty “On the Union of Belarus and Russia” and the Declaration “On the Further Unity of Russia and Belarus”.

The organizer of the Olympiad was the Pskov State University (Russian Federation), Institute of Humanities and Language Communications. It is worth noting that the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University is developing active cooperation with Pskov State University.

The purpose of the Olympiad is to improve foreign language communicative competence, prepare its regional and national components, develop intercultural communication skills in English and strengthen the unity of the youth of Pskov and Belarus.

Key tasks of the Olympiad:

1. development of linguistic and cultural linguistics competencies;

2. creating conditions for creative self-realization of young people of universities in Russia and Belarus, support for talented youth;

3. strengthening friendship and cooperation among the youth of the border countries.

Students of the Faculty of History and Intercultural Communications presented the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University at the online Olympiad:

1. Kisilev Ivan, 1st year, specialty “History (domestic and universal)”

2. Romanyuk Vitaly, 1st year, specialty “History (domestic and universal)”

3. Rudenko Victoria, 2nd year, specialty “History (domestic and universal)”

4. Pavlenko Yulia, 3rd year, specialty “Museum business and protection of historical and cultural heritage (history and museology)”

5. Akhremenko Matvey, 2nd year, specialty “Linguistic support of intercultural communications (international tourism)”

 Students were offered questions about the history of the development of the Belarusian and Russian ethnic groups, outstanding personalities, writers and cultural figures of Russia and Belarus, as well as tasks on logic and chronology of historical events. The questions were written in English and invited participants to test their knowledge of history and English at the same time.

According to the results of participation in the Olympiad, participants will be awarded certificates and diplomas.
