On October 15-16, the University hosted the Model UN session, organized by the UNHCR Office in the Republic of Belarus, the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University, the International Organization "Development", the Department of Civil Law Disciplines of the Faculty of Law of the GSU. As part of the event, students plunged into the atmosphere of the UN universal international organization, in particular, they modeled a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council on the issue of economic violence among refugees and forced migrants.

An agreement on the opening of a branch of the Department of Optics on the basis of the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was signed on October 16. Both parties were represented at the signing ceremony by the heads of the institutions - the rector of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University Sergey Khakhomov and the director of the institute Vitaly Zalessky.

The Prosecutor of the Gomel Region Viktor Morozov arrived to the Gomel State University with a working visit. The chief prosecutor of the Gomel region met with the rector Sergei Khakhomov, and then - with the labor collective of the GSU. In the format of an open dialogue, Viktor Nikolaevich discussed with those present the current socio-political situation in the country, spoke about the inadmissibility of distorting historical events and involving students in participating in unauthorized mass events.

Digital literacy is as important today as knowledge of spelling and syntax rules. Almost all aspects of our life are connected with computers, therefore it is a necessity to know the basics from the world of digital information technologies. To test digital literacy, students of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University took part in the All-Russian Dictation on Information Technologies educational campaign on September 12, 2020, timed to coincide with the Programmer's Day, which is celebrated on the 256th day of the year.

The International Youth Scientific and Practical Conference “World literature through the eyes of modern youth. The digital age ” is running on October 14-15. The organizers of the conference are Magnitogorsk State Technical University named after G.I.Nosov (Institute of Humanitarian Education, Department of Linguistics and Literary Studies) and Francisk Skorina Gomel State University (Department of Russian, General and Slavic Linguistics).

On October 13, within the framework of cooperation between F. Skorina Gomel State University and Jiangnan University, Wuxi, China, the staff of the Faculty of Physics and IT presented the results of scientists Gomel State University in the form of reports: Electromagnetic waves propagation in metamaterials and helical structures (I. Semchenko, S. Khakhomov, A. Samofalov, A. Balmakou) и DNA-like helix under the influence of an electromagnetic wave: shape change and danger of damage (I. Semchenko, S. Khakhomov, I. Mikhalka, I. Faniyaeu, A. Balmakou).

On October 13, GSU hosted an award ceremony for students who showed high results when taking specialized courses from IBA Gomel Park in the past academic year. The students were awarded certificates of successful completion of the courses, and souvenirs. Knowledge assessment was carried out in such disciplines as Linux, Python, Java, Javascript & Lotus Domino, and others. During the meeting, the company representative told the students about the internship opportunities and job prospects at IBA Gomel Park, and also answered questions from young people.

The final stage of the Republican Student Basketball League among men's teams took place on the basis of the sports hall №1 of the F. Skorina Gomel State University from 12 to 13 October. Our team, defeated rivals from the Brest State Technical University (70:41) and the Gomel State Technical University (79:50), took the 5th place. It should be noted that this year 35 men's teams representing various universities in our country took part in the competition. Our guys were prepared for the competition by the head of the sports club Sergey Kuleshov.

On October 12-13, the Faculty of Philology of Uzhhorod National University (Ukraine) hosted the International Scientific Conference "Phraseology in the Context of Related Sciences", organized in honor of the 80th anniversary of the birth of Doctor of Philology, Professor V.M. Makienko, Honorary Chairman of the Commission on Slavic Phraseology at the International Committee of Slavists.

The GSU hosted a meeting of students of the Faculty of Geology and Geography with the teacher of the year of Belarus, a graduate of our university Vadim Losev. For an hour and a half, Vadim recalled the years at the alma mater, told the students about his teaching activities, shared the secrets of success and plans for the future. The meeting began with welcoming words and congratulations from the GSU Rector Sergey Khakhomov. Sergey Anatolyevich presented the talented teacher with souvenirs and wished him further success.
