On April 18, the Russian Linguistic Culture Office of the Faculty of Philology hosted the annual educational event "Total Dictation," designed to draw attention to the culture of literate writing.
Participants from 1,240 locations across Russia and 56 countries, including China, Indonesia, Ireland, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Morocco, the USA, the Philippines, Switzerland, and elsewhere, completed the dictation in person. Participants could also join the event as part of an online marathon and online dictation.
A unique dictation text is created each year by a renowned writer specifically for the event. The author of the 23rd dictation text was Alexey Varlamov, writer, rector of the Literary Institute, and jury member of the Yasnaya Polyana literary prize. He wrote the text "Pushkin. Surname" for the Total Dictation, consisting of four parts, which were dictated in different time zones at city venues and as part of an online marathon. Our time zone, along with 18 regions of Russia and 45 countries, wrote the third part: "Confidant of the Magical Old Times."
At F. Skorina Gomel State University, the Total Dictation was conducted by faculty from the Department of Russian, General, and Slavic Linguistics. Participants included students, faculty from the Faculty of Philology, and literacy-minded residents of our city.
The results of the dictation can be found on the website totaldict.ru after April 22. The award ceremony for outstanding students will take place on April 27 at 12:20 PM in rooms 2-23.
We thank all participants and look forward to seeing you at the next Total Dictation 2027!
