On May 11, as part of the "Inter-GSU 2026" week, the XI Inter-University Olympiad in Russian Language was held for first-year international students and students of preparatory departments (hereinafter referred to as PD).
Participants included students from the Republic of Turkmenistan, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, representing four higher education institutions in the city: Francisk Skorina Gomel State University (hereinafter referred to as F. Skorina GSU), Gomel State Medical University (hereinafter referred to as GSMMU), Belarusian State University of Transport (hereinafter referred to as BSUT), and the Belarusian Trade and Economics University of Consumer Cooperatives (hereinafter referred to as BTEU).
In the first stage, participants took a computerized test on Russian grammar. Enar Orazgeldyeva, a student at the preparatory department of Gomel State Medical University, achieved the best result (100 correct answers out of 100 possible).
The second stage consisted of an expressive reading competition, "Spring and Woman Are Alike," a title particularly relevant this year, which has been declared the Year of the Belarusian Woman in the Republic of Belarus.
Before the upcoming reading of poems about the fair sex by Belarusian, Russian, and Turkmen authors, Andrei Valerievich Klimenko, Director of the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining, addressed the Olympiad participants with a welcoming address, congratulating them and encouraging them with the words, "The most important thing is not winning, but participating."
Gomel State Medical University student Gulpaykhas Kulnazarova impressed the jury with her artistry and heartfelt reading of Galina Lukas's poem "Nothing Beautifies a Woman More," while Aigul Atayeva, a student at the same university's preparatory department, read Eduard Asadov's poem "You Are Beautiful, Tender Woman," accompanied by a colorful presentation and music. The students were awarded first-place diplomas.
The expert jury—faculty members of the Department of Preparatory and Career Guidance—took longer than usual to decide on the winners, as the Russian language proficiency levels of preparatory and first-year students, students majoring in philology and non-philology, and students from Turkmenistan and Africa varied somewhat. Therefore, the jury decided to select winners in three categories: students majoring in philology, students majoring in non-philology, and preparatory department students. And the numbers (the number of points) helped make the final decision.
Based on the results of both stages of the Olympiad, the placements were distributed as follows: 1st place diplomas were awarded to students Selbi Bakiyeva (Faculty of Philology, F. Skorina GSU), Gulpaykhas Kulnazarova (Gomel State Medical University), and Aigul Ataeva (Professional Development, Gomel State Medical University); 2nd place diplomas were awarded to Anna Babadzhanova (Faculty of Foreign Languages, F. Skorina GSU), Enar Orazgeldyeva (Gomel State Medical University), and Mohammed Sguiri (Professional Development, F. Skorina GSU); and 3rd place diplomas were awarded to Anakhan Khazratova (Faculty of Foreign Languages, F. Skorina GSU), Meilis Agamuradov (Faculty of Physics and Information Technology, F. Skorina GSU), and Dorkas Kisolokele Mabondo (Professional Development, Belarusian Trade and Economics University).
All participants received souvenirs (notebooks and pens with Belarusian symbols), and the three-level winners were awarded diplomas and sweet prizes.
We congratulate the Olympiad participants and wish them continued success in their Russian language studies.
Svetlana Viktorovna Chaikova, Head of the Department of Pre-University Training and Career Guidance
