In late May - early June 2020, the national stage of the XIII World Competition "Bridge of the Chinese Language" among students of general secondary education institutions of the Republic of Belarus was held in Minsk on the basis of the Confucius Republican Institute of Sinology of the Belarusian State University. The theme of this year's competition was formulated as follows: "Chasing the dream of the Chinese language we cherish a wonderful time." For objective reasons, the competition was held remotely.

Every year the most outstanding students are awarded the prize of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee. We are proud to note the fact that among the awardees this year is a 4th year student of the Faculty of Philology Angelina Aksenchikova-Biryukova. Angelina graduated from school with a gold medal. The girl began to study Chinese in the Cabinet of Sinology of the Confucius Institute at the Gomel State University at the 1st year.

The first stage of the scientific and technological park of the state enterprise "Agency for Development and Investment Promotion" was opened in Gomel. The project is being implemented on the territory of the FEZ "Gomel-Raton" and is included in the State Program of Innovative Development of the Republic of Belarus for 2016-2020.

It's not a secret for anyone that the Skorina GSU is a treasure trove of smart, talented, creative individuals. Our students and graduates, teachers and employees successfully participate in conferences, promotions, competitions and projects of various levels, confirming the high status of the leading university in Polesie. As an example, we would like to mention  graduate students of the Faculty of Physics and IT Alexei Zaitsev and Ilya Golovach.

Alexander Velikorodnov, Senior Assistant for Program Activities of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Belarus (UNHCR) visited our university on June 11. During the meeting with the vice-rector for scientific work, professor O.M. Demidenko and Dean of the Faculty of Philology E.N. Poluyan, they discussed issues related to the continuation of language training for refugees on the basis of the educational institution "F. Skorina State University" with the aim of their successful socialization in Belarus.

An international scientific and practical online conference “Scientific heritage of academician I.F. Kharlamov" was held at the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University on 4-5 June. It was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the doctor of pedagogical sciences, full member of the USSR Academy of Pedagogical Sciences I.F. Kharlamov. The event brought together about 100 famous scientists, educational practitioners from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Outstanding Belarusian scientist I.F.

The auditorium 3-13 of building 5 of the Faculty of Physics and Information Technology of our university, was repaired. There were installed laser and milling equipment with numerical control (CNC), 3D printers, as well as auxiliary equipment without CNC. This will allow the students of our university to study the basics of creating control programs for working on CNC equipment, design and manufacture samples of metamaterials, antenna elements and other elements with high accuracy within  the course of coursework and diploma design, research work.

The results of the IV annual university-wide competition of business projects "My Startup" were summed up on June 2. The competition was organized by the Startup-GSU business school. This year 35 university students took part in the competition, and three reached the final. For 7 months the following specialists worked with the students:

•    Sergei Azyavchikov - director of the Startup-GSU business school; 

•    Andrey Chernyak - an entrepreneur, a business mentor, over 7 years in business, he founded and sold 5 companies from scratch; 

In recent years, Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, together with well-known IT companies, has been actively implementing a number of educational projects, one of which is the international seminar "WORLD of the digital future". The organizers of the seminar are the Faculty of Mathematics and Programming Technologies, training courses "GSU-Profi" of the Faculty of Distance Learning and Pre-University Training and the foreign IT company "Exadel". The project started in May 2018, to date, 8 meetings have already been held.

An experimental greenhouse was established on the territory of the GSU named after F. Skorina, in the courtyard of the educational building No. 1, created as part of an innovative project of the Faculty of Physics and Information Technology and the Faculty of Biology. As a result of close interdisciplinary interaction, a technological process for growing crops in full automation was developed. The new educational module is based on the project of Alexei Zaitsev “Mobius farm”, which allows you to manage a small greenhouse and farm using the “Internet of things”.
