On June 8, started  the World Modern Pentathlon Championship in the Egyptian capital. 7 sets of awards were played in Cairo. In the women's relay, competed 11 of the best teams in the world. This discipline includes fencing, swimming, show jumping, running and shooting (an athlete shoots at several stages while running over a distance). The first gold medal of the largest sports forum was won by Belarusians! The best in the relay was the team of Gomel girls Olga Silkina and Irina Prosentsova. Our girls scored 1395 points.

From 3 to 6 June on the rowing channel "Malta" in the center of Poznan, where international regattas are regularly held, the European Championship in rowing and canoeing took place. About 700 athletes from 33 European countries competed for the medals of the Championship in Poland.  The participants performed at distances of 200 m, 500 m and 1000 m in singles, twos and fours, as well as singles at a distance of 5000 m. 29 sets of awards were played. The Republic of Belarus took the III place in the medal table with three gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Last week the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Culture of Francisk Skorina Gomel State University took part in a number of international events. Employees, students, Master’s degree students and postgraduate students presented their reports at the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference "Education and Health" with Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S.

The team of SNIL "Financier and Banker" took the 1st place in the International Interuniversity Economic Olympiad "Business Analysis and Risk Management", which was held in March-April this year at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. The Olympiad was attended by 51 teams from 23 Russian and foreign universities.

A quiz “Monuments and memorable places dedicated to the history of World War II as part of the historical and cultural heritage ” among students on the history subject, prepared by the Department of the History of Belarus. This is the first event in our university dedicated to the International Day of Monuments and Historical Sites (World Heritage Day), which is celebrated annually in different countries of the world. The quiz was held jointly with the Gomel Regional Committee of the Public Association “Belarusian Republican Youth Union”. 

From  April 3 to April 10, the traditional republican action "Week of the Forest" was held in Belarus . This year the action took place for the 14th time. The event was timed with the Year of National Unity and covered all regions of the republic. The students of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University annually take part in a voluntary action.

The team of the student research laboratory "Start" (research advisor - Melnikov S.V.) of the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Culture took 3rd  place in the International student Olympiad in physical culture dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (Orenburg State Pedagogical University, Russian Federation). Student teams of higher professional education and sport professional education in physical culture  profile from Russia and neighboring countries took part in the Olympiad.

From March 29 to March 31, on the basis of the sports complex No. 7 of the F. Skorina GSU, the university basketball championship among girls was held. The tournament was attended by 8 women's teams, which were divided into two groups. According to the results of the preliminary stage, representatives of the following faculties reached the final: Physics and Information Technology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Foreign Languages ​​and Law. The competition was won by the team of the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy (responsible for sports-oriented work - D.A.Khikhlukha).

From March 30 to March 31, the championship of the Republic of Belarus in women's freestyle wrestling among young people up to 23 years old was held on the basis of the Olympic training center Stayki. About 150 best athletes of the country who fought in twenty weight divisions took part in the competition. The athletes of the Gomel region topped the overall standings and showed a good result, managed to score 155 points in male divisions and took the third place, and the girls won "silver".
