On December 16-17, Minsk hosted the International Student Competition on International Trade Law and International Commercial Arbitration "Chamber of Arbitrators - 2021", in which a team of Faculty of Law students took 1st place.
The organizers of the competition were the UN Commission on International Trade Law UNCITRAL, the Public Association "Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers", the Belarusian State University, the Minsk Regional Board Association, the International Arbitration (Arbitration) Court "Chamber of Arbitrators at the Union of Lawyers".
27 teams from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Ukraine took part in the competition.
Responsibility for the preparation of the team of the Faculty of Law of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University Natalia Kopytkova, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law Disciplines, Candidate of juridical sciences.
Our team included a 1st-year master's student of the specialty "Jurisprudence" Elizaveta Tenjuta and students of the specialty "Jurisprudence" Viktorija Meshkova (group P-42), Viktor Moiseenko (group P-43) and Elizaveta Yakovlenko (group P-33).
The competition was held in two stages. At the first written stage, the participating teams were required to prepare and send a memorandum of the plaintiff and the defendant on issues of jurisdiction and the merits of the dispute. According to the results of the first stage, our team was among the 12 teams admitted for further participation in oral hearings.
Preliminary rounds of oral hearings were held on December 16 at the Faculty of Law of the Belarusian State University. Here our team competed with the teams of MITSO International University, Belarusian State University, Vitebsk State University named after P.M.Masherov, Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, St. Petersburg State University, All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade, Ala-Too International University (Kyrgyzstan), M.Narikbayev KAZGUU University (Kazakhstan).
According to the results of preliminary oral hearings, the team of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University reached the final stage of the competition together with the teams of BSU, MITSO and the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade.
In the final, the participating teams had to simulate arbitration proceedings, in which they defended their positions on the case as plaintiff and defendant.
In a hot struggle , the team of the Faculty of Law of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University won the coveted victory. In addition, the team was awarded a diploma of the III degree in the nomination "The best position of the Plaintiff". Congratulations to the winners!
